This policy explains how App Box processes data on your Mac and uses Apple's purchase services. App Box does not require its own account. The current version includes no advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking SDKs. It does not upload your app list, searches, or usage history to developer servers.
Data processed on your Mac
To display, search for, and open apps, App Box reads installed apps' names, paths, bundle identifiers, icons, and file metadata used to estimate installation dates. It saves an app index locally. Your folder structure, names, search aliases, Quick Launch shortcuts, themes, and preferences also stay on your Mac. Search text is used for the current search and is not saved as search history.
Only when an app is successfully opened through App Box does App Box record its launch count and most recent launch order locally. These records support search ranking and Recently Used, which retains up to 20 apps. App Box does not record what you do inside apps or track activity after you open apps through other means.
Screen triggers read pointer position, modifier keys, and display information locally. Full-screen restrictions check the foreground app and window bounds. While the list is open, App Box detects clicks outside it to close the window. This information is used for immediate interaction, is not stored as activity history, and does not involve screen recording.
Storage and retention
Configuration and usage history are stored by default in ~/Library/Application
Support/AppBox on your Mac until you clear or delete them. App Box keeps up to 20 automatic
backups made before important configuration changes; these do not include usage history. Theme icon
caches are stored in ~/Library/Caches/com.vkefun.appbox/ThemeIcons. They may be removed
during cache cleanup, or you can delete them manually after quitting App Box.
The trial start time and most recent validation time are saved in the local keychain to calculate the 7-day trial and prevent ordinary clock changes from extending it. App Box does not sync this record between devices. Resetting App Box or deleting the app itself does not remove this record, so reinstalling does not restart the trial.
Apple purchase services and external links
Apple's App Store services handle price queries, payments, subscriptions, purchase restoration, and refunds. App Box uses StoreKit to verify transactions and expiry dates to determine access to premium features. It does not read or store payment card details. Apple processes store data under its privacy policy; retention and deletion follow Apple's rules and applicable law.
When you choose to open the website, Apple terms, subscription management, or support links, they open in your browser or the appropriate app. The destination service processes access data under its own policy. If you contact the developer, the developer receives the email address, description, and attachments you send, uses them only to address your feedback, and retains them for as long as needed to resolve the issue. You may request deletion, except where retention is legally required. Share only what is needed; do not send passwords or payment card details.
Exporting, dragging, and sharing data
App Box does not sell local data or use it for advertising. A configuration you choose to export includes app names, paths, custom names, aliases, and preferences, but no launch counts, Recently Used history, or keychain trial record. Review its contents before sharing. Dragging an app into other software provides its file URL; the receiving software handles it according to your actions there. Copying version information includes only App Box and macOS versions.
Controlling and deleting data
Choose Clear Usage History in Data & Recovery to clear launch counts and Recently Used. New records are created when you next open apps through App Box. Choosing Reset App Box and confirming clears configuration, usage history, automatic backups, and undo history, then rescans apps to create an initial configuration. Manually exported files, theme icon caches, the keychain trial record, and Apple purchase records are not included in the reset.
To remove all local data, first turn off opening at login and quit App Box. Then delete the configuration
and cache folders listed above, any exported files you saved, and the keychain item with service com.vkefun.appbox.trial
and account seven-day-trial-v1. Deleting only the App Box app usually leaves these
supporting files and records in place. App Box has no account of its own, so there is no
account-deletion process.
You can turn off keyboard shortcuts and screen triggers in Triggers & Position, and opening at login in General. After you quit App Box, it no longer records app launches or detects triggers. Use Apple's services to cancel subscriptions, request refunds, or manage Apple Account data. Deleting App Box does not cancel a subscription.
Policy updates and contact
When data handling changes, we will update this policy and its date. If new processing requires consent, we will explain it and obtain consent as applicable. For privacy, correction, or deletion requests, use the developer support channel in About or the channel provided when you obtained App Box. The developer cannot remotely access or delete data stored only on your Mac.
