Overview
Mi 8 Explorer is a separate 2018 model with a transparent decorative rear, in-display fingerprint and structured-light 3D face hardware. It is not another name for Mi 8 Pro.
Hardware and design
The maker specifies 8/128 GB, 177 g and 3000 mAh typical battery. Standard Mi 8's rear reader and 3400 mAh do not apply. The firsthand manufacturer discussion explains that visible rear components are a decorative layout rather than the working motherboard.
Pressure-sensitive screen fingerprint is not the ultrasonic reader used on Mi 5s. Structured-light hardware does not establish support in every payment app.
Software limits
The contemporary family introduction records Android 8.1; its MIUI 10 table is not proof of Explorer's first retail stable patch. That patch remains unresolved, and maker OTA promises are not treated as universal initial features.
