Mi 5

Overview

Xiaomi’s 2016 Mi 5 combines a 5.15-inch Full HD IPS display, Snapdragon 820, four-axis OIS rear camera and fingerprint Home key. Original base, 64 GB and ceramic Pro configurations retain separate clocks, RAM, flash and weight.

Period and variants

The Mi 5 appears in the 24 February 2016 MWC launch and firsthand report. A 1 March China sale is the contemporary announcement plan, not an independently established earliest worldwide retail day. Its 5.15-inch Full HD IPS display, aluminium frame, curved rear and physical fingerprint Home key define the original phone, separately from Mi 5s, 5s Plus and Mi 4s.

All three original tiers use Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530. The 32 GB base has a 1.8 GHz maximum CPU clock; 64 GB and original 128 GB ceramic Pro reach 2.15 GHz. The first two have 3 GB LPDDR4, versus 4 GB in Pro. UFS 2.0 flash is separate from RAM. Glass versions weigh 129 g; the original ceramic variant is 10 g heavier in the hardware review. Maker dimensions of 144.55 × 69.2 × 7.25 mm differ only in rounding from the review.

The 16 MP f/2.0 rear camera combines four-axis OIS, PDAF, dual-tone flash and a sapphire lens cover; the 4 MP f/2.0 front camera has 2 µm pixels. Original capture modes include 4K30, 1080p30 and 720p120 slow motion, while the contemporary camera sample lacks 1080p60. One reviewed IMX298 sample does not identify every factory batch.

Dual Nano-SIM, top 3.5 mm/IR and bottom USB-C/mono speaker remain distinct from absent microSD expansion. USB-C shape alone does not establish USB 3.1 link speed. The embedded lithium-ion polymer battery is 3000 mAh typical and 2910 mAh minimum, with compatible QC3.0 charging. Dual-band ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and navigation follow original evidence. India 32 GB specifications and radio bands stay regional; modem peak capabilities are not universal carrier performance. Android 6.0 and MIUI 7 describe the launch period.
