Overview
The 2014 Xperia Z2 adds a5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen,3 GB RAM,3200 mAh battery, front stereo speakers and4K30 recording. Regional networks, card-limit documentation, compatible-headset noise cancellation and original IP55/IP58 conditions remain scoped.
Period and variants
Sony Mobile announced Xperia Z2 at Barcelona MWC on24 February2014. The similarly named Z2 Tablet remains separate. A planned March global rollout does not establish one retail day for every country. The original D6502/D6503/D6543 table distinguishes networks: D6502 has no LTE, despite broad review wording.
Display, construction and audio
A5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen delivers424 ppi with Live Colour LED, Triluminos and X-Reality. Aluminium and glass measure146.8 ×73.3 ×8.2 mm and163 g. Two front speakers provide stereo, with the upper doubling as an earpiece. The guide places Micro-SIM and Micro-USB under the left cover and microSD on the right; reused predecessor positions and bottom-speaker captions in the review are excluded. Digital noise cancellation requires a compatible headset such as MDR-NC31EM, rather than any headphones or universal package contents.
Processing, camera and memory
Snapdragon801/MSM8974AB combines four2.3 GHz Krait400 cores and Adreno330. Its3 GB RAM is distinct from16 GB flash. The March paper and own review specify128 GB microSD, while preserved Android4.4 guide page120 says64 GB. The discrepancy is retained without inventing its firmware or revision cause. Roughly12 GB internal storage is not permanently free capacity.
The20.7 MP1/2.3-type Exmor RS rear uses a27 mm-equivalent f/2.0 G lens and single LED; the front is2.2 MP. Maker and test agree on4K30, with1080p60 and720p120 Timeshift capture. Capture120 is distinct from30 fps playback, and4K recording does not make the main display4K. SteadyShot is a named video feature; no lens OIS specification is inferred from that name. Mode-specific output and software effects remain scoped. The comparison article’s Z1 already runs KitKat, rather than its launch OS.
Power and collecting
The3200 mAh lithium-ion battery is embedded. Micro-USB and magnetic contacts supply power through physical connections. Wireless charging needs an optional cover; no built-in coil or chipset-derived charging wattage is assumed. FM/RDS uses a wired headset antenna. Original IP55/IP58 require closed covers and fresh-water conditions up to1.5 m for30 minutes; the guide explicitly says wear and damage reduce resistance. Maqa544’s2014 handset front and Rob Lawton’s three-colour exhibition photograph retain their table, screen and stand without establishing every retail firmware or accessory bundle.
