Overview
The 2013 Xperia Z combines a 5-inch 1080p screen, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, Exmor RS camera and IP55/IP57 protection. Glass panels and a round side power key distinguish it; C6603 LTE and C6602 HSPA+ remain separate radio versions.
Period and variants
The original CES release is dated 7 January 2013 and plans global first-quarter rollout, not one exact retail day. Launch software belongs to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean; the complete February review runs 4.1.1. Android 4.2 was an upgrade plan. Xperia ZL is a separate design whose dimensions, shutter key and features are excluded.
C6603 has three factory UMTS bands and six LTE bands. The March C6602 sheet lists five UMTS bands without LTE. Both have quad-band GSM; identify the individual model. Nominal 16 GB flash includes roughly 5 GB firmware and 11 GB internal storage in the January estimate, separate from 2 GB RAM. The period factory card limit remains 32 GB.
Rear Exmor RS is specified as 13.1 MP, with HDR stills and video. Both white papers and the complete review give 2.2 MP for the front camera; the announcement appendix gives 2.1 MP. There is no dedicated shutter key. The lower front grille is a microphone; the loudspeaker sits low on the right side.
IP55/IP57 conditions require all covers closed and limit immersion to fresh water, up to one metre for 30 minutes. MHL uses micro-USB. The embedded battery’s 2330 mAh minimum and 2400 mAh typical ratings remain distinct; press and review quote 2330 mAh. STAMINA manages screen-off background activity; advertising multipliers are not general measured endurance. Historical media and online services need present-day verification.
