Overview
The 2012 Sony-branded Xperia S leads the NXT family with a transparent strip, 4.3-inch 720p screen, dual-core MSM8260 and 12.1 MP camera. LT26i has 32 GB storage, NFC and a separate micro-HDMI port.
Period and variants
The original Sony Ericsson CES release is dated 9 January 2012 and plans first-quarter supply. Its Sony-branding footnote remains subject to regulatory approval, so the handset belongs to the transition period without implying acquisition completion on announcement day. A universal sale date is unset. Factory Android 2.3 and the March retail review’s 2.3.7 are distinct from later upgrades.
Navigation icons sit in the transparent strip; actual capacitive controls are the three dots above it. A two-stage camera key supports half-press focusing. The removable cover gives access to micro-SIM, not a user-replaceable battery. 32 GB flash and 1 GB RAM are separate, with no microSD expansion.
LT26i bands exclude Xperia ion’s LTE and other Japanese models’ features. Micro-HDMI handles television output separately from micro-USB. Tested USB peripherals do not establish universal compatibility. The reviewed package contains two SmartTags and no HDMI cable; regional bundles may differ.
The Exmor R rear camera has an LED. A contradictory factory summary-table entry is resolved against its own feature list and the actual physical review. The 1.3 MP, 720p front camera differs from Xperia Z. ANT+, PlayStation certification and media services describe their historical context; current service availability requires verification.
