Overview
T68i brings a 256-colour screen, MMS, Bluetooth and infrared to a compact early Sony Ericsson handset. Its camera is an optional CommuniCam accessory.
Period and variants
Sony Ericsson announced T68i and MCA-20 on 5 March 2002, planning availability that month. This entry distinguishes T68i from the earlier Ericsson T68, its original housing and later software upgrades. A universal first retail day is not established.
There is no integrated camera. Optional MCA-20 captures VGA 640×480 images, separate from the handset’s 256-colour display. Approximately 800 KB is shared available user-data space, not working RAM. The factory whitepaper specifies no built-in speakerphone; ringing tones and AMR voice recordings do not establish a full MP3 music player.
Bluetooth is documented as 1.0b. The original system connector uses an RS232 cable; optional DCU-10 connects it to a PC USB port without native USB mass storage. The March announcement lists WAP 1.2.1, while the April whitepaper describes WAP 2.0 / XHTML. Both dated accounts remain explicit, without guessing a firmware transition. Factory and actual tests establish 700 mAh BST-14, 84 g including battery and 100×48×20 mm.
