Overview
P800 combines Symbian, stylus input, a Jog Dial, VGA camera and MP3 playback in an extensible PDA phone. A removable numeric flap shares one touchscreen between calling and organizer use.
Period and variants
An August 2002 hands-on used a preproduction P800; a January 2003 purchaser test documents retail availability. The factory reference is January 2003 R2C. The tested early 1000mAh battery is qualified, and review dates do not establish a universal first retail day.
The same panel exposes 208×320 pixels with the flap open and 208×144 when closed. Factory memory diagrams separate 16MB RAM from two 16MB Symbian flash banks: standard P800 has a 12MB user area, whereas Chinese P802 has 9MB in the documented dictionary configuration. Original Memory Stick Duo ships with 16MB and is documented up to128MB; PRO Duo and modified firmware capabilities are separate.
The factory identifies ARM9 without a verified clock here. MP3 playback does not mean MP3 ringtones: the early retail test specifically found that distinction. USB PC synchronization uses the DSS-25 deskstand and old system connector. Weights are158g with battery/flap and148g after flap removal; photographed web content is not launch-software evidence.
