Overview
Sony Ericsson’s 2008 Cyber-shot slider combines an 8.1 MP autofocus camera, xenon flash, Wi-Fi and integrated GPS with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen. C905/C905a/C905c radios, M2 storage and FastPort connections are documented separately.
Period and variants
Sony Ericsson announces C905 on 17 June 2008, planning Q4 availability in selected markets. The 22 October advertising announcement is not a verified worldwide first retail day. A sliding numeric keypad, upper photo/gaming keys, side shutter and protective lens cover provide Cyber-shot handling. The operating system is proprietary Sony Ericsson feature-phone firmware; JP-8.4 identifies its Java application platform, not Symbian or Android.
The 8.1 MP autofocus camera captures 3264 × 2448 stills. Xenon provides still-photo flash, while an LED assists focusing and lights video. Video is QVGA at 30 fps. Stabilization is software-based; the maker specifies operation with xenon disabled. The November retail review update finds no manual ISO menu, despite earlier documentation. There is no separate front camera.
The original release distinguishes C905’s 2100 MHz 3G, C905a’s 850/1900/2100 MHz and GSM-only C905c. October’s white paper lists 7.2 Mbps HSDPA while the contemporary review lists 3.6 Mbps; an exact firmware or variant mapping remains unverified. M2 is not microSD. A planned bundled 2 GB card is not universal package content, and an unverified maximum card capacity, CPU and RAM remain unspecified. User storage of 160 MB, removable 930 mAh BST-38, FastPort and optional TV-out cable are recorded separately. Original photographs show the complete closed front and open rear lens cover; carrier branding does not establish every regional firmware.
