SL45 combines MP3 playback, removable MMC storage and voice recording in a compact metal handset with a monochrome display and external antenna.
Period and variants
Siemens announced SL45 in Venice in September 2000, planning December availability in Europe, Southeast Asia and South Africa. A March 2001 test confirms Polish retail availability. Announcement, planned rollout and regional retail dates are separate.
The supplied 32 MB MMC is removable storage, not internal RAM or entirely free space. Music, recordings, contacts and system files share it. A contemporary test used 64 MB MMC, without establishing a maximum capacity. The original cradle connects through a PC serial port; an external USB card reader does not establish native handset USB.
Java belongs to later SL45i and subsequent modifications, not original SL45. The tested standard battery is 540 mAh. Factory-guide width is 44 mm versus a contemporary review’s 46 mm, and factory 88 g excludes MMC. MP3 uses a wired stereo headset, not built-in stereo speakers.
