Overview

Wave S8500 records Samsung’s bada debut with a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED, metal body, removable battery and physical shutter. Original release, guide and retail evidence distinguish storage, card access and ports.

Period and variants

Samsung introduced Wave S8500 in Barcelona on 14 February 2010 as its first bada handset. The announcement’s April availability is a plan, not a verified global first-sale day. Wave II/III remain separate.

bada and physical controls

TouchWiz 3.0 supplies menus, widgets and task management, with period Samsung Apps, Social Hub and AllShare features. A 3.3-inch 800 × 480 Super AMOLED sits in a roughly 118 × 56 × 10.9 mm, 118 g metal body. Three front keys, left volume, right lock/shutter and top USB/audio/speaker agree with the original guide. The 5 MP autofocus camera and LED record nominal 720p30, compatible with a firsthand report of 29.97 fps.

SIM and microSD sit below the removable 1500 mAh battery. The original 32 GB card limit is separate from a tested 16 GB card. Announced 2/8 GB flash and reviewed user/app/message partitions are not RAM. The release’s 1 GB RAM claim lacks reliable hardware corroboration here, so RAM, precise chipset and GPU stay open. Original GSM/WCDMA bands, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, headset-antenna FM and analogue TV-out retain period definitions.
