Overview
The 2016 Galaxy S7 edge adds a 5.5-inch dual-curved screen, 3600 mAh battery, Dual Pixel camera and microSD expansion. Regional Exynos/Snapdragon variants, hybrid SIM tray and original IP68 test conditions are recorded separately.
Period and variants
Samsung announced the Galaxy S7 edge on 21 February 2016; the UK release page carries the following day’s date. A German 11 March announcement records local retail availability, while early UK preorder delivery is a separate schedule. An earliest global retail day remains unassigned. The dual-curved main screen grows to 5.5 inches and the battery to 3600 mAh, distinct from the flat S7.
Regional hardware and expansion
Exynos 8890/Mali-T880 MP12 and Snapdragon 820/Adreno 530 describe separate variants. The US review uses Snapdragon. The Exynos maker sheet lists 2.3 + 1.6 GHz; the processor review explains up to 2.6 GHz with only one or two Mongoose cores active. This is not an all-core clock. All have 4 GB LPDDR4, with regional 32/64 GB UFS 2.0 offerings; the original US release and sample are 32 GB.
MicroSD returns in the upper tray. The SM-G935F guide covers single SIM, while FD has a hybrid second Nano-SIM/microSD position. Three cards cannot be installed together. The guide and launch table specify 200 GB; a US test used a SanDisk 200 GB card. A conflicting official 2 TB footnote is excluded. Dimensions are 150.9 × 72.6 × 7.7 mm; regional maker sheets agree on 157 g rather than a review paragraph’s 153 g.
Camera, connectors and protection
The 12 MP f/1.7 rear camera combines Dual Pixel autofocus and OIS. The 5 MP front is also f/1.7. Maker information and the camera test supersede conflicting US-review f/2.4 and two-tone-flash wording; the rear LED is single. Actual video testing records 4K30, 1080p60, 720p240 capture and front QHD30, rather than a German release’s conflicting 4K60. A tested sensor supplier is not assigned to every factory batch.
Micro-USB 2.0/OTG, 3.5 mm and one external speaker remain below; IR is absent. Wired AFC/QC2.0 and fast wireless require compatible accessories. The battery remains embedded. Original IP68 conditions describe fresh-water laboratory immersion up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes, without proving equivalent protection on aged or repaired handsets.
Software and photographs
Android 6.0 TouchWiz launches with Always On Display and wider Edge panels. The 550-pixel software-panel width is not main-screen resolution. Later Nougat, Motion Photo export and a specific US FM update retain their separate chronology. The original gold rear photograph and two-phone comparison remain uncropped. In the latter, the gold S7 edge front is on the right, with a black flat S7 rear on the left; water droplets are preserved without treating them as a durability test.
