Overview
Samsung’s 2016 flat-screen Galaxy S7 combines a 5.1-inch QHD display, 4 GB RAM, Dual Pixel camera and 3000 mAh battery with microSD and IP68. Regional Exynos/Snapdragon, SIM-slot, storage and later FM differences follow maker documents and firsthand tests.
Period and variants
The Galaxy S7 is announced on 21 February 2016, with global/UK posts the next day. Samsung confirms German retail from 11 March; the US release plans the same date, while some UK preorders offer 8 March delivery. These regional dates do not establish an independently verified earliest worldwide sale. The flat 5.1-inch S7 remains separate from the 5.5-inch edge and Active.
Its 142.4 × 69.6 × 7.9 mm, 152 g glass/metal body retains the home fingerprint key, Micro-USB, 3.5 mm and mono bottom speaker. A sealed 3000 mAh battery accompanies restored microSD and IP68. The guide’s controlled 1.5 m/30-minute test is not a lasting guarantee after years of use or repair. G930F single-SIM and G930FD dual-SIM use nano-SIM; the latter’s second slot accepts SIM2 or microSD. A 200 GB card is specified and independently tested.
Regional Exynos 8890 octa-core and Snapdragon 820 quad-core configurations use Mali-T880 MP12 and Adreno 530 respectively. Frequencies, GPUs and radios are not merged. Four gigabytes is RAM, separate from storage: 32 GB launches in the US, with 64 GB options elsewhere. Four active Mongoose cores at 2.3 GHz differ from a two-core 2.6 GHz burst. Launch Android 6/TouchWiz, reviewed 6.0.1 and later FM-enabling updates remain distinct.
The rear 12 MP f/1.7 camera has Dual Pixel PDAF/OIS; the front is 5 MP f/1.7. Tests establish 4K30, 1080p30/60, 720p240 slow-motion capture and front QHD30. One Sony-sensor sample does not establish every manufacturing batch. The S6’s IR emitter is absent. Fast wireless charging needs a compatible pad, while NFC/MST and historical Samsung Pay service scope are separate. Original comparison framing remains: gold flat-screen S7 at right, larger black S7 edge at left.
