Galaxy S6 edge

Overview

The 2015 Galaxy S6 edge combines a 5.1-inch dual-curved QHD AMOLED, metal-and-glass body and Exynos 7420 with 3 GB LPDDR4. Its 132 g weight, 2600 mAh battery and scoped single-SIM guide remain separate from the larger edge+.

Period and variants

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 edge at Barcelona Unpacked on 1 March 2015. The joint release page is dated 2 March; an official retrospective identifies the event itself. The announced 10 April availability plan is kept separate from an unverified earliest worldwide retail day. The flat S6, larger S6 edge+ and single-sided Note Edge remain separate entries.

Curved display and construction

Both sides of the 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED curve around the handset. They belong to one main panel. A metal frame joins Gorilla Glass 4 front and rear. Official measurements are 142.1 × 70.1 × 7.0 mm and 132 g. The 2600 mAh battery differs from the flat S6’s 2550 mAh. Green Emerald was an edge colour; blue reflections on Black Sapphire do not establish the flat S6’s Blue Topaz finish. Nano-SIM and IR sit at the top, with Micro-USB, 3.5 mm audio and one external speaker below.

Hardware and period software

Exynos 7420 combines four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 cores with Mali-T760 MP8. The 3 GB LPDDR4 memory is separate from 32/64/128 GB UFS 2.0 flash, without microSD. Android 5.0 was announced; the contemporary sample ran 5.0.2 TouchWiz. Edge contacts, coloured incoming-call indication and night clock describe period software, without promising continuing news or payment services.

The rear 16 MP f/1.9 camera has OIS; the 5 MP front camera is also f/1.9. A single LED is separate from the heart-rate sensor. The original video test records 4K30, 1080p60 and 720p120 capture, with front QHD30. Slow-motion capture rates are distinct from playback, and mode restrictions on electronic stabilization do not erase optical stabilization.

Connectors and collecting

The later original SM-G925F/FQ/I guide covers a single Nano-SIM tray. Regional radio variants are not merged. Manufacturer and GSMA agree on Bluetooth 4.1 rather than MobileTechReview’s conflicting 4.0. Unconfirmed MHL output is left open. Wired AFC/QC2.0 and standard Qi/PMA wireless charging require compatible accessories; this is distinct from S7 fast wireless. Battery removal is a service-centre operation, and the reviewed original has no IP rating. The white launch-event front close-up and 2017 dark rear photograph retain their original framing, background and EXIF orientation.
