Overview
Samsung’s 2014 Galaxy S5 combines a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen, fingerprint scanning, rear heart-rate sensor and original IP67 rating. Removable battery, microSD and covered Micro-USB 3.0 are documented with SM-G900F LTE as the main reference.
Period and variants
Samsung unveils Galaxy S5 in Barcelona on 24 February 2014, then announces commercial availability in 125 countries on 11 April. The original Mobile Press release and next-day global Newsroom publication have separate dates. S5 retains plastic construction, a removable cover, replaceable 2800 mAh battery and microSD, while adding IP67, Home-button fingerprint scanning and a rear heart-rate sensor. A perforated rear texture and covered bottom USB port define its appearance.
The main reference is SM-G900F LTE: Snapdragon 801, four Krait 400 cores, Adreno 330, 2 GB RAM and initial Android 4.4.2 with TouchWiz accompany a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen. Samsung advertises up to 2.5 GHz; Notebookcheck reports 2.45 GHz for its sample. Other regional processors and bands need separate checks, as do S5 mini and S5 Neo. Nominal 16/32 GB includes system space. Both the original release and SM-G900F guide state cards up to 128 GB; an older review’s 64 GB wording is not assigned an invented firmware cause.
The 16 MP rear ISOCELL camera has phase-detection autofocus. Recording provides UHD/30 fps, Full HD/30 or 60 fps and 720p slow motion. Photo HDR, Selective Focus and video stabilization do not mean optical stabilization; available functions vary by mode. Fingerprint recognition requires a swipe over Home. One rear speaker is separate from stereo recorded audio. Contemporary wireless charging requires an optional compatible back cover rather than the standard cover.
IP67 describes the original device in specified laboratory conditions with correctly sealed rear and USB covers, without guaranteeing aged seals. The original guide’s one-metre, thirty-minute immersion conditions do not cover every water situation. Gear Fit beside the phone in the cover photograph is a separate accessory rather than a standard bundle. The second photograph retains a close-up of the blue rear, camera and heart-rate-sensor area.
