Overview
The 2013 Galaxy S4 brings a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, finger-hover previews and infrared control to a 130 g body. This entry uses the tested Snapdragon 600 GT-I9505 baseline and separately explains GT-I9500.
Period and variants
Samsung announced S4 in New York on 14 March and planned worldwide rollout during the second quarter. GT-I9505’s 1.9 GHz quad-core processor differs from GT-I9500’s two four-core groups. Factory FAQ page 5 explains that the launch octa-core implementation switches between Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 groups instead of keeping all eight active simultaneously.
The design retains a removable battery and microSD. Advertised 16 / 32 / 64 GB versions describe hardware storage; the tested 16 GB unit’s initial 9.15 GB user space is a software allocation. Orange branding in a photograph identifies appearance alone.
Air View uses finger hover, and the infrared emitter controls external appliances. Dual Camera mode combines the front and rear cameras rather than adding a second rear sensor. MHL requires an external adapter. S4 Mini, Active, Zoom and later LTE-A models retain separate identities.
