Overview
Galaxy Note Edge extends a Super AMOLED screen around its right side, combining edge shortcuts with S Pen, 3 GB RAM, a 16 MP stabilized camera and a removable battery.
Period and variants
Samsung announces Galaxy Note Edge on 3 September 2014, planning availability in selected markets later that year. The Note 4’s October schedule does not establish a worldwide first-sale day for Edge. Launch software is Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung’s interface; later carrier updates remain separate.
One screen around the edge
A 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panel has 2560 × 1600 pixels: a 1440 × 2560 main area and 160 × 2560 right strip. Shortcuts, alerts, quick tools, a night clock and software camera controls use that extension. The fixed panel is continuous. Contemporary testing notes left-hand reach issues. An aluminium frame, faux-leather plastic rear, top power key and Home fingerprint scanner accompany an integrated S Pen with reviewed 2048 pressure levels, handwriting, Air Command and hover features.
Regional hardware
The tested retail version uses Snapdragon 805, quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450, Adreno 420 and 3 GB RAM. Samsung’s original table separately lists a regional 1.9 + 1.3 GHz octa-core option. That declaration is retained without inventing a retail chipset or SKU mapping. Launch storage is 32 GB; the review also lists a regional 64 GB option, with cards up to 128 GB. LTE category, bands and services require the exact variant.
Camera and power
A 16 MP autofocus rear camera has optical stabilization; the front camera is 3.7 MP f/1.9. Rear 2160p30 and 1080p60 are reviewed, while electronic stabilization has resolution limits. Edge shutter controls are onscreen. Native 3.5 mm, infrared, NFC, USB 2.0 microUSB and MHL 3.0 accompany a rear mono speaker. The removable 3000 mAh lithium-ion pack supports compatible fast charging. Approximately half in thirty minutes describes the review conditions. Wireless charging needs an optional compatible cover. A temperature/humidity label in the guide conflicts with the announcement table and is not entered as settled hardware.
