Overview

Samsung’s 2013 Galaxy Note 3 combines a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 3 GB RAM, stored S Pen and removable battery. LTE and Exynos 3G hardware, video and networks are distinguished.

Period and variants

Samsung unveils Galaxy Note 3 in Berlin on 4 September 2013, with a planned regional rollout from 25 September. The global Newsroom article is published on 5 September; publication and event dates are recorded separately. A 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 3 GB RAM and S Pen accompany a 168 g body and initial Android 4.3. The leather texture and stitching are imitation finishes on plastic, with a plastic frame.

S Pen stores in the bottom of the handset. Hovering and pressing its button opens Air Command for Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write, S Finder and Pen Window. Physical Home, capacitive Menu/Back, top 3.5 mm and infrared, and one bottom mono speaker retain this generation’s controls. Announced 32/64 GB internal storage is nominal. The original SM-N9005 guide lists cards up to 64 GB, separately from RAM and user-available space. The 3200 mAh battery is removable.

SM-N9005 LTE is the main reference, with the contemporary Exynos 3G variant described separately. Snapdragon 800 and Exynos 5420 are different CPU/GPU configurations. The LTE version supports UHD/30 fps, Full HD/60 fps and HD slow motion; the contemporary 3G version records up to Full HD/30 fps. Modes and LTE band sets vary by regional model. Rear 13 MP autofocus and Smart Stabilization do not mean optical stabilization, while stereo recorded audio is distinct from a single speaker.

Micro-USB 3.0 is backwards-compatible with USB 2.0; tested USB host and MHL with an external adapter are recorded individually. The photographs show a black front and white rear with a separate S Pen. They document appearance rather than radio variants or factory software.
