Overview
The original 2013 Redmi, also called Hongmi, brings quad-core MT6589T, a 4.7-inch 720p IPS screen and MIUI V5 to the budget segment. It retains dual SIM, microSD and a replaceable 2000 mAh battery, with 1 GB RAM and 4 GB flash.
Period and variants
Sina’s 31 July hands-on records that day’s announcement and the 799-yuan TD model. Later factory prices belong to a different sales state. Redmi was then Xiaomi’s product series; its original hardware is recorded here. An exact common sale date is left unset.
This is the original MT6589T/PowerVR/4 GB model, excluding 1S hardware and 8 GB flash. The manufacturer page’s 1S recommendations are separate from its original specification table. TD-SCDMA and WCDMA versions have different 3G bands. Dual standby is not simultaneous calling: the launch TD unit allows one active call.
The August review uses Android 4.2.1 with MIUI V5, changing from HBJ1.4 to HBJ1.6. One software build does not represent every batch. RAM differs from flash; the factory specifies microSD up to 32 GB and a replaceable 2000 mAh battery. Period physical reviews distinguish its screen construction from Mi 2S. The product renders come from the original 2013 Redmi gallery retained on the manufacturer site, separately from its 1S recommendations.
