Overview
Redmi 2 brings Snapdragon 410, a 4.7-inch HD IPS screen and dual SIM LTE to an early budget handset, with standard/enhanced memory, regional bands and battery capacity distinctions recorded.
Period and variants
Redmi 2 is announced on 4 January 2015, with contemporary reports planning China sales on 9 January rather than one worldwide first retail day. Snapdragon 410 / Cortex-A53 at 1.2 GHz and Adreno 306 accompany a 4.7-inch HD display. Standard 1 GB / 8 GB and enhanced 2 GB / 16 GB appear separately in original tables; Redmi 2A and Note 2 are other models.
Removable construction
GSMA specifies about 134 × 67.2 × 9.4 mm and 133 g, while PhoneArena measures 134 g and slightly different rounding. A removable matte plastic cover encloses a pack rated 2200 mAh and typically 2265 mAh, one capacity distinction rather than two upgrades. Xiaomi allows Sony, LG and other suppliers. Battery obstruction makes the reviewed dual MicroSIM and card slots non-hot-swappable. Fully laminated IPS offers colour-temperature adjustment alongside side keys, native 3.5 mm and a rear mono speaker.
Software and radio
Launch-era MIUI 6 runs on Android 4.4. A 64-bit capable processor does not prove a 64-bit launch software environment. Usually one card uses LTE/3G while the other stays on GSM; telecom main/secondary rules differ. Original Hong Kong maker and CSL tables corroborate LTE 3/7/8, WCDMA 900/2100 and GSM 900/1800. Mainland carrier tables remain separate. Official card support is 32 GB.
Camera and media
The 8 MP f/2.2, 28 mm-equivalent rear camera supports HDR, panorama and 1080p; the 2 MP front records 720p. Ten-photo-per-second burst is not video frame rate. USB 2.0 microUSB / OTG, GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou and FM RDS accompany reviewed absence of NFC and wired MHL / SlimPort. Original Quick Charge 1.0 capability is separate from reviewed 5 V, 1 A bundles. The source photograph explicitly shows a Redmi 2 Prime running Plasma Mobile, with upstream cropping and enhancement. It documents later software use, not the factory MIUI screen; this archive preserves the downloaded file.
