Overview
Redmi 1S Snapdragon 3G versions combine a 4.7-inch IPS screen, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB flash, standard dual SIM and a removable battery, with regional processor, software and radio differences recorded.
Period and variants
Redmi 1S is a 2014 budget-phone family. This page centres on its Snapdragon 3G branch. The 15 July Indian introduction does not establish the family’s first worldwide announcement, so an exact day remains open. Xiaomi separates WCDMA MSM8228 and CDMA MSM8628, both Snapdragon 400 / Adreno 305 at 1.6 GHz, from the MT6582 / Mali-400 mobile 3G version. Original Redmi 1 and single-SIM 1S 4G configurations stay separate.
Controls and expansion
The reviewed 137 × 69 × 9.9 mm, 158 g handset has plastic construction and a removable matte rear. A 4.7-inch 720p IPS display sits above three red capacitive icons. Side power and volume, top 3.5 mm and bottom microUSB accompany standard-size dual SIM slots. The reviewed WCDMA unit uses 3G on its primary card and GSM on the other. Its card slot is hot-swappable, unlike the battery-obstructed Redmi 2 slots.
Software and variants
Snapdragon versions combine 1 GB RAM and 8 GB flash with MIUI 5 / Android 4.3, and the original WCDMA/CDMA table supports 64 GB cards. The MediaTek mobile 3G table separately specifies Android 4.2 and 32 GB. FoneArena’s 5.64 GB free space describes its firmware; its MIUI 45.0 update addresses heat and memory issues. Manufacturer and Hong Kong carrier tables corroborate WCDMA 900/2100, while the review’s 1900/2100 list conflicts and is not treated as settled hardware.
Camera and media
An 8 MP autofocus rear camera has LED, f/2.2 and 28 mm-equivalent optics; the front is 1.6 MP. Original 1080p recording is distinct from the playback table’s 30 fps. Bluetooth 4.0, FM RDS, USB OTG, GPS/GLONASS on Snapdragon variants and Dirac headphone profiles add connectivity. Xiaomi/GSMA list 2000 mAh while FoneArena specifies 2050 mAh. Without matching pack labels, that difference is retained. The original photograph includes factory-film labels without archive sharpening or screen replacement.
