Overview

N97 pairs a tilting touchscreen slider with a three-row QWERTY keyboard, combining 32GB storage, GPS, Wi-Fi, an FM transmitter and a Zeiss camera in an Nseries smartphone.

Period and variants

On 2 June 2009 Nokia announced sales during June across multiple countries; contemporary retail inspections confirm the hardware. The announcement is not a universal first retail date. The WCDMA triple-band figure comes from the original global sheet, without assigning it to other regional hardware.

The advertised 48GB consists of 32GB onboard mass storage plus a 16GB card. It is neither 48GB internal storage nor RAM. RAM is 128MB, with a separate 256MB ROM. The later N97 mini’s display, battery and capacities are not merged here.

The factory 15.9mm thickness excludes the camera area reaching 18.25mm. Factory and retail inspection agree on the 1500mAh BP-4L. The external stylus is documented from a retail package rather than a prelaunch preview. Lens cover, dual LEDs, card slot, USB charging and television output are likewise based on retail hardware.
