Overview

Nokia N900 brings the Linux Internet Tablet approach to a phone through Maemo 5, multitasking desktops, a landscape keyboard and resistive touch, with 32 GB storage, 5 MP imaging, Wi-Fi, HSPA and GPS.

Period and variants

Nokia’s 27 August 2009 announcement planned October availability in selected markets. The 10 November release confirmed shipments had started and retail availability in November. These milestones remain separate. N900 runs Maemo 5 rather than N97’s Symbian or N9’s MeeGo.

Its 600 MHz Cortex-A8 uses 256 MB physical RAM. The advertised up-to-1 GB application memory also includes 768 MB virtual memory. Original material combines 32 GB onboard storage with 16 GB card expansion for 48 GB overall. Three-row keys, resistive touch and a removable stylus favour landscape use.

Infrared remote control is distinct from IrDA transfer; an FM transmitter does not establish a supplied radio receiver app. Factory and sample-test WVGA resolution / frame-rate descriptions are kept separate, with actual frame drops acknowledged. Browser and service descriptions document period capabilities.
