Overview
N9 records Nokia’s MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan branch through three views and edge swipes. Original and firsthand evidence distinguish its polycarbonate body, curved glass, OMAP3630 and non-expandable flash.
Period and variants
Nokia announced N9 in Singapore on 21 June 2011, with retail availability planned later that year. MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan groups applications, open tasks and events into three views, replacing a front Home key with edge swipes. N900, the N950 development handset and later Nokia 9 PureView remain separate.
Curved glass and minimal controls
A colour-through polycarbonate shell carries curved protective glass over a flat AMOLED panel. Its 3.9-inch 854 × 480 display is distinct from ordinary 800 × 480 WVGA. Right-side volume/power, top MicroSIM/microUSB/3.5 mm and a bottom speaker accompany OMAP3630, single-core Cortex-A8, SGX530 and 1 GB RAM. The 16/64 GB flash has no card expansion, and the 1450 mAh battery is not user-replaceable.
The f/2.2 autofocus Zeiss camera and dual LED produce different still-image sizes by aspect ratio. Original nominal 720p30 differs from a retail introduction’s 27 fps. Original Bluetooth 2.1 agrees with that introduction but conflicts with its connectivity page’s 3.0; no firmware mapping is invented. NFC assists Bluetooth pairing and headphone Dolby processing is separate from speaker stereo. Original photographs retain their screens without establishing firmware versions.
