E63

Overview

Announced in 2008, the E63 combines Symbian S60, a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.36-inch landscape display, 369 MHz ARM11 and removable 1500 mAh battery. International bands, RAM and user storage are recorded separately.

Period and variants

Nokia announces the E63 on 12 November 2008, planning availability in the following weeks. A plastic Eseries body combines email and organiser shortcuts, a landscape QVGA display and full QWERTY keyboard. The removable BP-4L, 3.5 mm connector and fixed-focus 2 MP camera belong to this handset. Symbian 9.2 with S60 3rd Edition FP1 remains distinct from the limited FP2-style interface additions described in reviews.

Radio bands here follow the original Issue1 international E63-1 RM-437 guide: quad-band GSM and 900/2100 MHz UMTS. Contemporary international samples provide Wi-Fi b/g, with no HSDPA. Other regional versions are not assigned the same configuration. The phone has no built-in GPS or front camera; map software alone does not imply a satellite receiver. Left-side Micro-USB transfers data while a separate bottom socket charges the battery.

Two reviews report 128 MB RAM and another 111 MB without establishing the precise measurement basis. Approximately 110–120 MB user storage is separate from RAM. The launch release’s 1 GB Files on Ovi refers to a historical online service, not internal storage or present-day availability. An 8 GB card was tested; contradictory 16 GB statements within GSMArena’s review do not establish universal compatibility.

Holding the space key in standby activates the camera LED as a flashlight. Video is QVGA at 15 fps. A single top speaker is separate from stereo Bluetooth headset playback. Several sources agree on the BP-4L’s 1500 mAh capacity but differ in lithium-ion versus lithium-polymer terminology. Included accessories and cards vary by sales package.
