Overview
The 808 PureView brings a large 41 MP sensor and pixel oversampling to a production smartphone. Nokia Belle, a replaceable battery, microSD, HDMI and USB OTG place its camera innovation within the Symbian hardware tradition.
Period and variants
The MWC announcement was on 27 February 2012. Nokia’s May rollout notice named Russia and India among the first markets; neither date establishes a universal retail day. Launch software is Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1.
The 41 MP headline describes the sensor. Full-resolution photographs use approximately 38 MP or 34 MP according to aspect ratio; PureView output combines pixel information into smaller images. Fixed-lens crop zoom differs from moving optical zoom and from the Lumia 1020’s stabilized camera design.
Advertised 48 GB combines 16 GB onboard and a supported 32 GB card. Battery type follows the sheet’s BV-4D technical row, with its conflicting BL-4D package entry acknowledged. Micro-HDMI differs from the N8’s mini-HDMI. FM reception and transmission remain separate capabilities.
