Overview
The original 2002 Nokia 7210 combines a 128 × 128, 4,096-colour screen, distinctive keypad, Xpress-on covers and Pop-Port with tri-band GSM, MMS, Java and FM radio. Its camera accessory remains separate.
Period and variants
Announced on 12 March 2002, the original 7210 brings distinctive asymmetric keys, interchangeable covers and a small colour screen to Nokia’s new Series 40 interface. Q3 shipping was a plan; an owner review dated 14 October already describes an operator offering the handset. The 2008 7210 Supernova/7210c is separate.
Colour and personalisation
A 128 × 128, 4,096-colour screen works with four-way navigation, wallpapers and colour schemes. The plastic Xpress-on shell and unusual keypad distinguish the approximately 106 × 45 × 17.5 mm, 83 g phone. Four-voice SP-MIDI tones, Triple Pop, Bounce, MMS and MIDP 1.0 Java are period highlights.
The Americas guide specifies a 725 kB shared picture/tone/MMS/Java pool and 64 kB maximum application download; an early reviewer reports approximately 500 kB available. Neither figure is RAM. Up to 300 contacts share dynamic capacity depending on their fields.
Accessories and connections
Tri-band GSM/GPRS, WAP 1.2.1 and infrared support compatible period services and transfers. One owner could transfer contacts from a 7650 but could not beam its pictures; IR is not universal file-transfer compatibility. Bluetooth and an integrated camera are absent. Nokia separately announced the HS-1C VGA camera headset, powered through Pop-Port and compatible with the 7210. The pictured attachment does not become a built-in camera specification.
Pop-Port also supports a stereo headset and optional DKU-5 serial PC connection; charging uses a separate round socket. FM loudspeaker playback still needs a headset antenna. The guide’s battery chapter and two reviewers specify BLD-3 at 720 mAh, while the same guide’s technical table says 700 mAh. Endurance depends on actual use and battery condition. The first photograph is a source-provided crop kept unchanged; the second preserves the original phone-and-camera frame.
