Overview
Announced in 1999, Nokia’s 7110 combines a 96 × 65 monochrome screen, NaviRoller and spring-open keypad cover with dual-band GSM, WAP 1.1, infrared and a large contact book.
Period and variants
Nokia announced the 7110 at the Cannes GSM congress on 23 February 1999 with a Q2 volume-delivery plan. A contemporary 1 October report instead described initial limited deliveries to partners and developers, followed by production ramp-up. The annual report confirms deliveries during 1999; these events do not establish one exact worldwide first-sale day.
Roller, cover and WAP
Figure 3 in the original developer guide specifies a 96 × 65 monochrome display. NaviRoller scrolls and selects by pressing, alongside two softkeys, Send/End and a numeric keypad. An upper rear trigger releases the curved keypad cover. The screen remains fixed; opening and closing the cover also participates in call and keypad-lock control.
WAP 1.1 offers period WML services through a gateway rather than modern full-web browsing. This 7110 is GSM 900/1800; the 7190 and TDMA 7160 are separate models. Its upper-right infrared port supports compatible transfers, printing and Snake II multiplayer with clear close-range alignment.
Contacts and power
Up to 1,000 internal contacts can hold five numbers and two text/address fields each. SIM contacts separately support up to 250; these counts are not RAM. SMS allows 160 characters, with predictive-text languages depending on software and market. Snake II, Rotation, Racket and Opposite accompany calendar, calculator and vibration functions.
The original service table lists 125 × 53 × 24 mm and 141 g with BLS-2S. The guide’s ACP-8 charging example is about 90 minutes for that pack. Optional BLS-2/BMS-2/BMS-2V are listed at 900 mAh and BLS-4 at 1,500 mAh; a similar name does not establish BLS-2S capacity. Period endurance claims remain conditional. Two original photographs show the cover closed and open.
