Dates and versions
Announced on 16 June 2003, with shipments announced on 27 October; the release described the European and African sales package. The exact first retail day remains unverified. This is the original 6600, separate from later slide, fold and 6600i models.
Use and collecting
Symbian OS 7.0s and Series 60 support Java MIDP 2.0. The 6MB internal user storage and bundled 32MB MMC card are not RAM. The card sits beneath the battery, so changing it requires powering down and removing the battery.
A VGA camera records stills and short clips. Bluetooth, infrared, GPRS and XHTML browsing provide contemporary connectivity; an additional Opera HTML browser was bundled in selected markets. Weight follows Nokia’s 125g shipping specification. The original BL-5C rating is 850mAh, rather than the capacity of later batteries sharing that model name.
