Overview

5230 is a representative affordable Nokia touch smartphone, retaining an nHD resistive display, GPS, 3G, removable battery and expandable storage with a 2MP fixed-focus camera and no Wi-Fi.

Period and variants

The 25 August 2009 announcement planned a fourth-quarter launch; a December hands-on review documents the retail package. This entry covers 5230 without merging 5228, 5233 or later hardware. A precise regional first sale remains unverified.

The factory brochure lists 14.5/15.5mm thickness and 113/115g weight variants. Its service manual distinguishes thick covers carrying a stylus from thin covers without one, by region. A European sample lacking a stylus therefore does not describe every 5230. WCDMA pairs are retained per RM code. The US T-Mobile Nuron review documents 1700/2100MHz and a bundled 4GB card; these are not universal original-package details.

The 128MB RAM and approximately 70MB file area are separate. Factory and Nuron nHD recording figures are distinguished from another retail test’s VGA figure. Micro-USB cannot charge, and the 3.5mm audio socket does not imply the 5800’s TV output.
