Overview
Nokia 5130 XpressMusic combines dedicated music keys, native 3.5 mm audio, stereo Bluetooth and FM with a 2-inch QVGA display, Java, removable BL-5C and side card slot.
Period and variants
Contemporary reports date the announcement to 4 November 2008. Nokia’s original sheet plans a Q1 2009 introduction, without establishing one worldwide first retail day. The 1998 monochrome 5130 is separate.
Music and controls
The 88 g plastic candybar combines a 2-inch QVGA screen with numeric keys. Three left music keys also control FM, with optional rhythmic illumination. A native 3.5 mm connector and stereo Bluetooth support headphone listening; the rear loudspeaker is separate. FM RDS still needs a wired headset antenna. The planned package includes a 1 GB card, WH-102 headset and short data cable, subject to regional bundles.
Software and storage
Series 40 supports Java, background music/radio, calendar and recording. Opera Mini is preinstalled in the reviewed sample, which lacks Flight mode and Active Standby. Approximately 30 MB is user storage, not RAM. The first guide states 2 GB microSD support, while GSMArena tests 16 GB successfully. A precise firmware/card mapping remains unconfirmed. The side slot can be changed while powered after card access stops.
Camera and power
A fixed-focus 2 MP camera produces 1600 × 1200 pictures without flash and records QCIF video. MPEG4/3GP playback capability does not raise recording resolution. Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, microUSB data and a separate charger socket accompany a removable BL-5C. The review specifies 1020 mAh; the launch sheet names the pack without capacity. Six-hour talk and twelve-day standby maxima differ from the reviewer’s approximately three-day extensive-use sample. The review introduction and hardware page conflict on an ambient-light sensor, so unverified sensor, CPU and RAM entries remain open.
