Overview

The Nokia 1600 is a 2005 entry-level candybar with a 96 × 68 colour screen, transparent numeric keys, speaking clock and preset polyphonic sounds. Official 85 g weight and removable BL-5C are verified separately; its dedicated connector is not USB.

Period and variants

Nokia introduced the 1600 with the 1110 in Nairobi on 2 June 2005, planning third-quarter availability. Its colour screen and transparent plastic keys offered another entry-level option. It is 45 mm wide versus the 1110’s 44 mm. The manufacturer and Mobilenet list 85 g; Mobile-review lists a conflicting 80 g. This archive retains 85 g and explains the discrepancy.

Colour screen and menu

Both contemporary handset reviews report 96 × 68 pixels. Nokia specifies 65,536 colours; Mobile-review identifies the passive LCD as cSTN. Four-way scrolling, selection keys and numeric buttons operate the icon menu. Adjustable themes, speaking time announcements, an alarm and a SIM-less demo belong to this generation. The 1110’s inverted monochrome specification is kept separate.

Calls, messages and entertainment

The RH-64 English guide specifies EGSM 900 / GSM 1800. Its preserved Issue 4 dates to 2007 and is identified as a later guide. Up to 200 contacts and about 60 reviewed SMS slots are functional limits; shared memory does not establish RAM or freely usable file capacity. Picture messages comprise several SMS messages, rather than MMS. The contemporary Mobilenet report also records no WAP browser.

Twenty-voice MIDI and MP3-quality preset ringing are distinct from an arbitrary-file music player. Snake Xenzia, Rapid Roll and Soccer League are games in the reviewed handset, with regional software differences left possible. Prepaid balance notifications require an operator-provided compatible service.

Battery and collecting

The rear cover and BL-5C battery are removable. The period review reports 900 mAh; replacement packs may differ. A separate round socket charges the phone, beside a dedicated connector that is not USB. The later guide names AC-2, ACP-7 and ACP-12 without proving universal package contents. Official maxima of 450 hours standby and 5.5 hours calling describe original conditions. Kallerna’s 2009 whole-handset photograph is preserved; its switched-off screen does not establish firmware. The user guide says the phone is not water-resistant.
