Overview
Motorola’s 2007 RAZR2 V8 combines metal and glass with 2.2-inch inner and 2-inch outer screens and haptic music controls. Linux/Java, quad-band GSM/EDGE and Micro-USB belong to V8; V9 radios and card expansion remain separate.
Period and variants
Motorola announces RAZR2 on 15 May 2007 with July availability planned for selected markets. This record covers GSM/EDGE V8, separately from HSDPA V9, CDMA/EV-DO V9m and the Luxury Edition. V8 uses Motorola Linux/Java, called LJ 6.5 in the early review. Windows Media Player 11 is computer-side synchronization compatibility. The guide prints 512 MHz; the early ARM11 review says 500 MHz. An exact hardware or error mapping remains unverified.
The 2.2-inch inner and 2-inch outer screens are both QVGA. Three music controls over the outer display provide haptic feedback; the full panel is not touch-sensitive. Messages, template replies and self-portrait framing are available with the flip closed. The guide and retail reviews place Micro-USB on the left and voice commands on the right, superseding the conflicting early description. A single rear speaker is distinct from stereo headset playback.
The maker sheet’s introductory 512 MB conflicts with its 420 MB user-space summary; the early sample review gives roughly 490 MB. A separate 2 GB version exists. These are not RAM figures. V8 has no card slot: the guide’s Delete Memory Cards command deletes SIM information. Retail reviews agree on 770 mAh lithium-ion, while June’s early review says 960 mAh; no exact variant mapping is asserted. The fixed-focus 2 MP camera lacks flash and records QCIF at 30 fps. The guide’s high-definition marketing and a review’s erroneous 3G endurance wording do not establish HD capture or a 3G radio.
