Overview
The 2004 E398 combines dual stereo speakers, music-reactive lighting and TransFlash expansion; this record covers the European tri-band original.
Period and variants
Manufacturer reporting appeared in March 2004 and hands-on testing in July; the exact first retail day is unverified. E399 regional variants and the later ROKR E1 are separate configurations.
The joint service manual lists regional band alternatives while identifying a tri-band phone. Bundled card capacities vary by market. Stereo playback and reactive lighting are defining features. Conflicting 700/800/830mAh battery figures await confirmation from original retail battery labels.
