Overview
Meizu’s 2014 MX4 combines a 5.36-inch 1920 × 1152 IPS display, custom MT6595, 2 GB RAM and 20.7 MP Sony rear camera. Its detachable plastic cover, embedded battery and capacitive circular Home remain distinct.
Period and variants
Meizu launches the MX4 on 2 September 2014 in the original event report, checked against maker specifications. An independently established earliest worldwide retail date remains open. Its 5.36-inch IPS panel is 1920 × 1152, despite loose 1080p wording in some prose. Sharp/JDI panels, Gorilla Glass 3, a metal frame and matte plastic rear accompany 144 × 75.2 × 8.9 mm dimensions and 147 g weight.
The custom MT6595 combines four 2.2 GHz Cortex-A17 and four 1.7 GHz Cortex-A7 cores. Original maker PowerVR G6200 naming is retained without the unconfirmed MP4 suffix found in reviews. Two gigabytes of dual-channel LPDDR3 is RAM; 16/32/64 GB is flash, with 64 GB historically difficult to find. Android 4.4 KitKat and Flyme 4 describe the launch period, while 4.4.2 is the November review sample and Flyme 5 a later webpage footer. MX4 Pro, the older MX four-core and Ubuntu Edition remain separate.
Maker IMX220, 20.7 MP, f/2.2 rear and IMX208, 2 MP, f/2.0 front specifications agree with contemporary tests. Dual-tone LEDs and manual/HDR modes are documented; a 0.3-second maker focus claim does not prove PDAF. The tested 4K-labelled mode produces 3840 × 2176, H.265 at 30 fps, with 1080p30 and 720p100 slow-motion capture exported at 25 fps. Capture and playback rates remain distinct.
The removable cover exposes Micro-SIM but does not make the 3100 mAh battery routinely swappable, and microSD is absent. The circular Home is capacitive, with top power/3.5 mm, left volume and bottom Micro-USB 2.0/mono speaker. Original dual-band ac, Bluetooth 4.0, OTG and Miracast remain period features. The reviewed phone lacks NFC, IR, FM and wired TV-out. Mobile, Unicom and international radios stay regional; ambiguous CDMA wording in a review is not proof of CDMA2000 support.
