Overview

Meizu MX2 replaces the physical Home with a circular touch control and SmartBar around a 4.4-inch 800×1280 screen. Samsung-made MX5S, 2 GB dual-channel memory and 16/32/64 GB internal flash form its core hardware. The rear cover opens for SIM access; the 1800 mAh battery is not user-swappable.

Period and variants

The Water Cube event on 27 November 2012 precedes retail on 19 December, confirmed by Meizu’s manufacturer-authored release. M040 in the original reviews is the main hardware reference, separate from later network editions and firmware.

Samsung-made MX5S is based on Exynos 4412, with quad Cortex-A9 up to 1.6 GHz. RAM is 2 GB; 16/32/64 GB refers to built-in flash, without external cards. Application partitions and free space are not physical capacity. The reviewed package’s 404.5 g marking is not handset weight; device specifications say 142 g.

Circular touch Home, its notification light and SmartBar define this generation. Launch Flyme 2.0 is based on Android 4.1. Opening the rear cover gives access to micro-SIM and the shell-mounted flash, while the battery remains fixed. Rear 1080p/30 fps and front 720p are distinct; the early default 720p recording setting is not a hardware ceiling.
