Overview

The Meizu M9 succeeds M8 with customised Android 2.2, Samsung S5PC110 and a 960×640 ASV screen, entering retail on 1 January 2011. WCDMA, GPS and microSD are joined by 512 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM; 8/16 GB packages refer to supplied cards.

Period and variants

The website introduction appears on 15 December 2010, followed by media testing and documented 1 January 2011 retail sales. A December catalogue month does not establish retail availability; earlier proposed TD/CDMA designs are excluded.

The original review lists 512 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM separately from the supplied 8/16 GB microSDHC card, with expansion up to 32 GB. Two physical comparisons distinguish M8 built-in flash from M9 card storage. Mini-USB, the top headphone socket and replaceable battery are recorded independently; speaker openings do not prove stereo.

Early review firmware limits the CPU to 800 MHz and 720p recording to 15 fps. December updates enable 1 GHz and 30 fps MP4 recording. These are software states, not separate processors. Launch Android 2.2 differs from the manufacturer’s May 2012 account of Android 2.3.5 and planned Android 4.0/Flyme. Photo metadata is not release-date evidence.
