Overview

The original Meizu M8 marks the move from music players to phones, with a 3.4-inch 480×720 touchscreen, Samsung ARM11 platform and a customised Windows CE 6.0 system. Built-in 8/16 GB flash, stereo speakers and a replaceable battery retain its multimedia emphasis.

Period and variants

This entry covers the late-2008 test device and 2009 retail M8. Period event and review reports agree on 18 February 2009 for formal sales, distinct from earlier public-test circulation. Its Windows CE 6.0 foundation does not guarantee compatibility with every Windows Mobile application.

Early test firmware limits Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and EDGE. The May 2009 manufacturer handbook later documents Bluetooth, EDGE status and USB modes, while the April mainland white-model report still lacks Wi-Fi. Wireless capability is therefore version-specific. September SE removes the original music button and changes the SIM holder and audio component.

RAM is 256 MB; 8/16 GB flash is internal, without card expansion. The teardown identifies S3C6410. Early nominal 667 MHz and later 600 MHz reports remain distinct. Battery replacement, autofocus, VGA recording and higher-resolution playback are separate features. Photos establish appearance, not a retail variant or release date.
