Overview
LG’s 2014 G3 combines a 5.5-inch QHD IPS display, rear keys and removable 3000 mAh battery. Snapdragon 801, memory configurations, 13 MP OIS+ laser-assisted camera and regional charging/radio differences are documented.
Period and variants
LG announced G3 in London on 27 May 2014, with rollout scheduled to start in Korea on 28 May. It continues the G2 rear power/volume keys and KnockON in a 146.3 × 74.6 × 8.9 mm body. The brushed-metal appearance belongs to a removable plastic cover. Original G3, G3 A, G3 S/Beat and G3 Stylus remain distinct.
Display and configurations
The 5.5-inch 2560 × 1440 IPS LCD defines this generation. LG lists 538 ppi; GSMArena lists approximately 534 ppi. Snapdragon 801 combines four 2.5 GHz Krait 400 cores and Adreno 330 with 2 GB/16 GB or 3 GB/32 GB configurations. The AT&T D850 sheet specifies 3 GB/32 GB, with usable storage separate. Its original band table is scoped to D850.
Camera, connections and power
The 13 MP rear camera combines OIS+ optical stabilization, laser-assisted focus and dual LED flash; the front is 2.1 MP. Contemporary tests confirm 4K at 30 fps, 1080p 30 and 720p 120 slow-motion capture, with nominal format distinct from resolved detail. A rear speaker, bottom Micro-USB 2.0 and 3.5 mm jack, top infrared remote and adapter-based SlimPort/USB host round out the hardware.
The 3000 mAh battery is user-replaceable, with Micro-SIM and separate microSD beneath the cover. Global launch documentation says 128 GB cards; D850 says 2 TB. The published difference is retained without claiming a 2 TB test. Wireless charging depends on the actual cover and market: the reviewed back uses Qi, while AT&T involves PMA and an optional wireless QuickCircle case. Launch Android 4.4.2 is kept separate from later updates; contemporary reviews report no certified IP resistance.
