Overview
LG Cookie KP500 brings a 3-inch resistive touchscreen, horizontally stored stylus and widget interface to an affordable feature phone with quad-band GSM, a 3 MP camera, Java and removable battery.
Period and variants
LG announces Cookie on 30 September 2008, planning European deliveries at the end of October followed by other markets. Original KP500, operator KP501 with different keys, and later Cookie models remain distinct. A worldwide first retail day is unverified.
Touch and software
The approximately 89 g plastic handset combines a 3-inch 240 × 400 resistive TFT screen with adjustable haptic feedback. A horizontal retractable stylus supports handwriting; landscape QWERTY is onscreen. Three front keys handle calls, the launcher/task manager and ending. Widgets and contacts occupy alternating home screens. An accelerometer assists supported rotation and motion functions.
Java is supported, but reviewed background behaviour differs: GSMArena describes concurrent Java while PhoneArena reports partial support excluding games. Seven built-in widgets, up to 1,000 contacts and nine speed-dial contacts describe the period interface.
Media and connections
The fixed-focus 3 MP camera reaches 2048 × 1536 without flash. The original guide explicitly separates QVGA recording at up to 12 fps from 24 fps playback. A dedicated side shutter, FM RDS and up to 50 presets support media use. Even speaker radio needs a headset antenna. LG’s proprietary accessory connector handles charging, data and headphones; ordinary 3.5 mm headphones need an adapter. Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE has neither 3G nor Wi-Fi.
The guide states an 8 GB card limit; GSMArena tests 16 GB. Approximately 50 MB in that review and 48 MB in Absolute Gadget are user-storage observations, not RAM. Their precise sample/firmware mapping is unresolved. A reviewed 900 mAh removable battery and approximately two-day moderate-use result differ from quoted maximum endurance. Global 39-language marketing does not establish all languages installed on every handset.
