Overview
The original 800 MHz U8800 combines a 3.8-inch WVGA screen, MSM7230, 512 MB RAM and a 5 MP rear camera. Four capacitive keys, microSD expansion and a replaceable 1500 mAh battery are characteristic of this early Android generation.
Period and variants
Introduced at CES on 6 January 2011, it was scheduled for January availability in Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand. The precise first retail day remains unverified.
This entry follows the original 800 MHz U8800. Pro, operator editions and seller-upgraded software require separate identification. The early software is Android 2.2; IT168 later reviews 2.2.1. CNMO explicitly tests a pre-release unit, so its bundled apps do not define every retail package.
Storage figures describe different scopes. Early manufacturer publicity advertises 4 GB, while IT168 reports 512 MB ROM and about 2 GB of user space. Gareth’s handset also exposes about 2 GB. Neither user-space figure establishes the complete physical flash capacity. The microSD slot is separate. ASCII lists 11.6 mm thickness, differing from the 11.4 mm CES description.
The front and rear photographs retain the original screens, reflections and markings. They establish appearance, rather than firmware or radio edition.
