Overview

HTC’s 2014 Android flagship pairs a 5-inch Full HD screen and Snapdragon 801 with front BoomSound stereo and a Duo camera pairing UltraPixel imaging with depth capture. Regional CPU clocks, storage and radios are documented separately.

Period and variants

HTC announces the Android One (M8) on 25 March 2014. The US release separates North American online sales that day from planned store availability on 10 April; Hong Kong’s 27 March announcement is regional. Android 4.4 and Sense 6 remain separate from Windows, Google Play Edition, dual-SIM, Eye and E8 variants.

Wraparound aluminium retains plastic antenna sections and a top infrared window. The 5-inch Full HD screen uses onscreen navigation; twin front speakers provide BoomSound stereo. Duo combines an approximately 4 MP-equivalent UltraPixel main camera with a depth-recording module, without adding their pixel counts. The retail review explicitly reports no optical stabilization. The front camera is 5 MP. The guide confirms left nano-SIM, right microSD and bottom 3.5 mm / Micro-USB.

The maker sheet specifies 2.5 GHz for Asia/China and 2.3 GHz elsewhere, corroborated by Hong Kong and Verizon respectively. Storage totals differ from free space. LTE bands stay regional; the guide also notes 3G-only versions. The 2600 mAh embedded lithium-polymer battery, original 5 V / 1.5 A adapter and special-cable MHL are recorded separately. Original photographs show an Android interface, complete rear and Duo detail; their dates and interface do not establish every retail variant.
