Overview

The R320s combines WAP, an integrated infrared modem, a calendar and voice memos in a business candybar handset. GSM data speed, display descriptions and battery configurations need to be read in their original context.

Period and variants

The original 22 September 1999 announcement planned volume supply in the first quarter of 2000. A German report described retail availability on 29 May; neither is a universal first-sale day. R320sc adds a complete Chinese interface and messaging, which are kept separate here.

The March 2000 white paper and December test identify integrated infrared and GSM data. The 115200 bit/s figure is a local infrared rate; GSM data uses 9600 bit/s uncompressed or a higher effective rate with V.42bis compression. This is not GPRS or modern web browsing.

The roughly 100 g factory weight uses a Slim pack; the review’s 850 mAh BSL-11 battery is a specific tested configuration. Conflicting pixel descriptions are left unresolved rather than silently merged. The blue museum specimen is captioned with its documented missing battery.
