At a glance
The iPhone 6 brought a 4.7-inch display, A8 and Touch ID to Apple’s mainstream phone, documenting the move toward larger screens.
Dates and versions
Announced 9 September 2014; first retail markets opened on 19 September, with mainland China following on 17 October. Launch software was iOS 8 and storage was 16/64/128GB; later 32GB and updated archive software are distinguished.
The rear camera lacks the Plus model’s optical stabilisation. The contemporary teardown lists Bluetooth 4.0, despite today’s archive saying 4.2. NFC initially served Apple Pay, whose availability depended on software and region. Radio support varies by A-model identifier.
RAM and battery ratings come from physical inspections and hands-on reports, rather than Apple’s public specification table. The date field uses first-market retail availability.
