Dates and versions
Announced 2008-06-09; first retail availability 2008-07-11. The date field uses that first retail day, not the announcement.
The 8 GB version was black; the 16 GB version came in black or white. These are Apple’s international GSM/UMTS specifications. Do not substitute 3GS hardware just because the cases look similar: examples carry A1241 and A1303 identifiers respectively.
Unconfirmed internal memory and battery-capacity numbers are omitted. Manufacturer battery-life figures are laboratory maximums.
